ROCKLAND — Maine State Representative Valli D. Geiger, a Democrat, announced Thursday she is running for re-election. Serving in her first term, she has represented House District 93 which consisted of Rockland and Owls Head.

Following the decennial redistricting, House District 93 has been reconfigured as House District 42 consisting of Rockland, most of Owls Head, North Haven, Matinicus and the Mussel Ridge Islands.

Rep. Geiger noted in her announcement she is looking forward to getting to know the residents of North Haven and Matinicus and the nine residents of the Mussel Ridge Islands, while continuing to serve the residents of Rockland and Owls Head.

Rep. Geiger and her husband, Greg Marley, have lived in the Midcoast for over 40 years, moving to Rockland in 1997. She designed their net zero, post and beam house. Greg is the Clinical Director at NAMI Maine and an avid mushroomer.

Geiger is a Registered Nurse and has been working in healthcare and health policy for most of her adult life. She continues to work as a nurse, holding a part time position with the Infusion/Chemotherapy Clinic at Lincoln Health in Damariscotta. An increasing concern over climate change and a lifelong interest in house design, led Geiger to obtain a master’s degree in green design in 2014.

Geiger spent six years on Rockland City Council, one as Mayor and four years on the Comprehensive Planning Commission. She founded and continues to participate in a bimonthly women’s breakfast focused on civic engagement and community.

In her current term in the legislature, Rep. Geiger is serving on the Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Business Committee. She also belongs to the Housing Caucus and the newly formed Behavioral Health Caucus.
