Yvette S. Mandel, obituary

ROCKLAND — Yvette S. Mandel, born on June 18, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on July 17, 2024, in Rockland, Maine. A graveside service was held at Owls Head Cemetery on in Maine under the guidance of Adas Yoshuron Synagogue.

She was predeceased by her husband, Merven Mandel, and by her grandson Gregory Mandel and son-in-law Peter Townsend.

She is survived by her daughter Janna Townsend, her sons Mark Mandel and his wife Kathleen, and Ira Mandel and his wife Catherine; granddaughters Melanie Feldman, Nina and Lucca Townsend, Kayla Mandel; grandson Aaron Mandel; nephews David Schwartz and David Fin; and niece Lisa Schwartz.

Yvette was a loving mother and earned her Master’s in Social Work degree in New York where she worked as a clinical social worker. She was a life-long Bridge player and later enjoyed playing Mahjong.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Yvette can be made to PAWS Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856, honoring her love for animals, particularly cats.
