BELFAST — Traditional Made Modern: A Fresh Look at Traditional Quilts, by Amy Nichols and Alison Olds of Deer Hill Designs, will be on display April through May 2023, in the Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library.

Amy Nichols and Alison Olds have been friends, neighbors, and co-creators for many years. Even though they are no longer neighbors (Nichols now lives in Belfast), they continue to collaborate and share their love of creating with fabric. They are longtime art quilters, who have explored many facets of quilting through classes and workshops.

Both Nichols and Olds began quilting using traditional patterns, but were soon looking for other ways to explore and express their artistic interests. Finding and participating in the group, Art Quilts Maine, encouraged them to see and make quilts as an art form.

This show provides a look at using traditional quilt patterns as a springboard to inspiring art quilt interpretations.

The Kramer Gallery, located on the ground floor of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High Street, is open during library hours.
