CAMDEN — Susan J. Feraco, 67, of Camden, passed away at home on July 11, 2020, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was attended by her devoted husband of 20 years, Joe Feraco and her caregiver and friend, Kathy Shaw.

Born to the late Harold and Betty Young, she was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio before moving to Maine where she eventually settled down in Appleton with her then husband, Ben Magro to raise her two children, Noah and Eliza.

Susan worked at Waldo County General Hospital for 25 years as an OB/GYN Nurse. Ushering in new life was something she dearly loved, whispering “Welcome to planet earth” to each new arrival. In 1997, she fulfilled a long cherished dream when she and Joe went to work in St. John, VI at various jobs in two eco resorts, Maho Bay Camps and its sister company, Concordia Eco Resort. They did this for twenty years before retiring and moving back to Camden, Maine.

Susan enjoyed life to the fullest and was always smiling and bringing joy to others. She loved music, singing, dancing, yoga, making pottery, her family and friends and mostly the warm, clear blue water of the islands. She became a much beloved mentor and friend to the ever changing group of young people who came to the Caribbean for work.

In addition to her parents, Susan was predeceased by her sister, Darby MacMillan.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Joe Feraco of Camden; children, Noah and Eliza Magro both of Appleton; stepchildren Michael Feraco of Thomaston, Sarah Cruikshank of Crownsville, Maryland, and Kevin Martin of Brunswick; grandchild, Isabel Magro; and 9 step grandchildren.

A very special thanks is extended to the following people for their steadfastness and much appreciated help which enabled Susan to remain in her home throughout the extent of her illness. This was a goal that was very important to her loved ones. So, undying love and gratitude to Karyn and David Deane, Jimmy Delehanty, hospice workers, JoJo, Kimberly and Lucy.

Thanks to all the many other friends and family who also gave of their time and support during this long battle. Susan was a “warrior princess” who touched all those who came in contact with her with love, gentleness and kindness even as she struggled with this insidious disease. She was a great example of unconditional love and graciousness right to the end.
