helping Meals on Wheels recipients know they remain part of the community

MCH Meals on Wheels awards Camden Rotary volunteers with certificate of appreciation

To recognize the dedication the Camden Rotary Club volunteers have towards the community and the crucial role they play within the MCH Meals on Wheels program, MCH Executive Director Liz Schuh and MCH Program Coordinator Katie Tarbox awarded the Camden Rotary MCH Meals on Wheels Rotarian volunteers a certificate of appreciation.

Camden Rotarians make up a large number of the vital volunteer drivers that MCH Meals on Wheels relies on to deliver hot meals to recipients, Monday through Friday, throughout Knox County.

“We are awarding the Camden Rotary Club Meals on Wheels volunteers with our sincere appreciation to those Rotarians who have and continue to volunteer,” said MCH Executive Director Liz Schuh, in a MCH news release. “It is volunteers like you who make this program possible. Thank you from all of us.”

Katie Tarbox, MCH Meals on Wheels program coordinator followed up, “I second everything that Liz said and want to add that you are the boots on the ground, and I’m so grateful and appreciate all of you.”

Sharing a moment with an MCH Meals on Wheels volunteer helps Meals on Wheels recipients know they remain part of the community, and that there are people concerned about their well being, according to MCH. In some cases, the volunteer-delivered meal may be the only balanced meal they eat all day and the conversation with the volunteer may be their only face-to-face interaction on that day.

Meals on Wheels services are available to seniors and individuals with disabilities. There is a suggested donation, but no one is turned away, regardless of their ability to pay.

“Some people need meals for a few weeks after a surgery or an accident,” said MCH. “Many people receive meals for months or years, allowing them to stay in their own homes for as long as possible.”

There are more than 40 Meals on Wheels drivers like the Camden Rotarians, who deliver hot, nutritious meals Monday through Friday. MCH Meals on Wheels is always looking for volunteer drivers for regular routes, substitute drivers and volunteers interested in office or other projects as well.

The Camden Rotary Club is a volunteer service organization. They are ordinary business and professional people with a simple motto - "Service above Self." Members donate their time and resources to help others and improve the quality of life, both in our local community and abroad. They enjoy the friendship and satisfaction of good people working together to make a positive difference in the world.

MCH empowers individuals, primarily older adults and people with disabilities, to maintain independent, active lives by providing them access to housing, Meals on Wheels and support services. Since 1969 MCH’s programs have provided a critical safety net for the most vulnerable members of our community; elderly and disabled individuals with few financial resources. The dedicated MCH team of service professionals, volunteer drivers, nutritionists, cooks, community partners, and donors is committed to helping them maintain their independence for as long as possible. MCH Meals on Wheels is the only Meals on Wheels program serving Knox County.
