BURNHAM — An 18 year-old was killed in an early morning crash June 19, around 5:13 a.m., according to a June 20, press release from Waldo County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Cody Laite.

The single vehicle accident occurred on Winnecook Road in Burnham, with members of the WSO and Maine State Police responding to the scene.

Initial investigation into the crash, which involved a 2006 Saab 9-2X, was being driven Paul Raye Jr., of Detroit.

According to the media release, Raye failed to navigate a curve in the roadway and ran off the roadway, striking a large tree. Raye reportedly died at the scene as a result of the impact.

The investigation into the crash remains active and ongoing, however it is noted that speed is considered to be a contributing factor at this time.
