AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list of presumptive positive and confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state of Maine. Today, there are 42 cases confirmed, 10 presumptive positive and more than 2,000 have returned as negative. Many of them are in their 50s and 60s, although the age span is under 20 to over 80, with 30 females and 22 males.

One person, thus far, has recovered in Maine. 

Three days ago, the CDC reported a Knox County male, in his 30s, had been confirmed positive with COVID-19. But for the last two days, his case has been off the list. Why:

According to CDC spokesperson Robert Long: “Further epidemiological review of the case listed Tuesday as being a Knox County resident determined that the individual's primary residence was in another state. Per U.S. CDC directives, cases are listed by the state of primary residence. The individual is still being cared for in Maine, but is not listed in the Maine CDC table online to ensure accurate national tabulation of COVID-19 cases.”

Definitions

Confirmed Cases: This now includes cases formerly identified as presumptive positive. This classification applies to samples sent by a health provider directly to HETL that test positive and to samples from non-governmental labs for which HETL validates positive results.

Presumptive Positive Cases: These are samples that test positive at non-governmental labs and are sent to HETL for validation.

Negative Tests: This number represents negative tests from state, reference, or commerical laboratories, or at US CDC.
