HOPE — Hazel Joanne (Bickford) Eaton, age 82 of Hope, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2024 with her family by her side after a brief illness.

She was the loving wife of Albert C. Eaton, Sr. for over 51 years. Together they raised 6 children.

Born in Winter Harbor, Maine, Hazel was the daughter of the late Chester and Ernestine (Wood) Bickford.

She attended local schools and went on to further her education, earning a degree in accounting. Hazel began her accounting and bookkeeping business in 1966, which she continued for over 57 years serving many loyal clients. Her passion for her career resulted in many lifelong friendships.

Prior to her long-time career in bookkeeping and accounting, Hazel worked at Ma Belle in Boston, and Sylvania in Waldoboro.

Throughout her life, Hazel exemplified strength in every aspect. She faced adversity with unwavering determination, overcoming obstacles with resilience and courage. Even in her final days, Hazel displayed remarkable strength, confronting her illness with bravery and grace.

A devoted gardener, Hazel found solace and joy among the flowers and plants she nurtured. Her love for gardening was surpassed only by her love for her family, whom she cherished above all else. She was a true adventurer at heart, always eager to explore new places whether in the state of Maine or traveling down the coast to spend time in Florida with her many friends. In her early years, she enjoyed riding her motorcycle and snowmobile, depending on the season. Hazel and her husband Albert loved traveling in their RV exploring different campgrounds, with her favorite being Aldus Shores in Searsmont. Hazel also enjoyed sewing, going on cruises, lawn sales, shopping and spending time with friends and family.

Hazel is predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Kelley Smith Glena; and her granddaughter Emily Bidu Eaton.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Clarence Eaton Sr. of Hope; her sons, David Eaton and his wife Melanie of South Thomaston, Dan Eaton and his wife Leslie of Rockport, Dale Eaton and his wife Jennifer of Wausau, Wisconsin, Jeff Smith and his wife Ann of Lincolnville, Albert Eaton, Jr. and his wife Allison of Appleton; her sister Marchia Firth of Rockland, her brother Edward Bickford of West Virginia, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hazel will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may be gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Seaview Cemetery in Rockport (off Chestnut Street), for all who wish to attend, with a reception to follow at Dan and Leslie’s home, located at 93 Park St., Rockport.
