Student and teacher reunite to hold “Sing Your Heart Out!” summer camp

In 2007, Allysa Anderson, the middle school music teacher at Camden-Rockport Middle School (CRMS), placed a guitar in the hands of sixth-grader Alice Limoges for the first time. That moment sparked a musical journey for Alice, a Rockport native, leading her to a vibrant career in music. After graduating from CHRHS, Alice spent seven years in New York City, where she studied, taught, and performed music, eventually becoming a private music instructor. Since then, Alice has performed on a Grammy Award-winning album, released five albums of her own, received honors in the International Songwriting Competition, and toured extensively from Washington, DC, to Montreal.

Meanwhile, Allysa Anderson continued teaching in Maine’s public schools, culminating in over 20 years of experience today. She holds an undergraduate degree in music education from the University of Southern Maine and completed a master degree in arts integration from Lesley University. Allysa has taught a combination of general music and choral music throughout her career and also been involved in directing and creating a variety of musicals, musical revues, and concerts.

In 2020, Alice returned to the Midcoast, where she began teaching songwriting classes to both peers and students, working with students ages 4 through 80 privately and in public group settings. She established her private music studio, “Alice Limoges Music Studio”, to empower students with the skills to write, sing, play, and record their own songs.

In 2022, Alice and Allysa reunited to hold a songwriting workshop for eighth graders at CRMS. After three successful workshops, they have honed their approach to inspiring young songwriters and are excited to announce a new songwriting summer camp this August.

"Sing Your Heart Out!" summer camp will take place at the Penobscot Language School from August 19-22. Running daily from 9 am to 1:30 pm, the camp offers group singing and songwriting sessions, individual instruction, recording opportunities, and outdoor activities in the school's spacious yard. The camp is open to children aged 9-14 and will conclude with a public student performance at 1:30 pm on August 22 at Penobscot Language School.
