THOMASTON — Peter A. Betts, age 74, died peacefully at his home in Thomaston on June 27, 2024.

Born in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, on July 29, 1949, Peter was the son and one of seven children to Milford A. and Mildred B. MacLaurin Betts. At a young age, Peter and his family moved to Thomaston where he grew up and attended local schools. Starting work at a young age, he mowed lawns and did odd jobs.

In 1971, he married Susan Tabbutt of Thomaston, and they remained in Thomaston where they started their life together and raised their two children.

Peter worked for Day’s Jewelry in Rockland, and for Skip’s Commercial Cleaning. He was also a clam digger for many years.

Peter enjoyed watching sports, particularly baseball and football, and he especially loved the Red Sox. He took great pleasure out of listening to his records and loved Fleetwood Mac, 70’s Music, and The Beatles.

In Peter’s later years, he resided at the Knox Apartments in Thomaston, and made some very wonderful friendships there. He was a man of few words, but what he did say was always kind and gentle. He had a dry sense of humor, and often would laugh at his own jokes and was always making a funny.

He had a great love and admiration for his family.

Other than his parents, Peter is predeceased by the mother of his children, Susan, and a sister, Barbara Betts, as well as a daughter-in-law.

Peter is survived by his children, Peter R. Betts, of Cushing, Ann M. Daggett, and her husband Wes of Thomaston; grandchildren, Brandon Betts and his partner Myra, Sophie Daggett, and Drew Daggett; great-grandson, Mason Lee Milford Betts; five sisters, Joyce Betts, Marilyn and Phillip Baker, Susan Kelley, Kathryn Cassidy, and Arlene Betts and her partner George. He also has many loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all that helped Peter with his health in his final years. A special thanks goes out to the friends of Knox Apartments for loving and caring for him ever so kindly.

A gathering and time of remembrance will be held at his daughter, Ann’s home, at 15 Nutmeg Lane, Thomaston on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12 noon. A private burial will be held at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston, William Waldron, III officiating.
