On Saturday May 25, high schools from the Midcoast assembled at Mount Desert Island Community Sailing Center, Southwest Harbor for the final Pen Bay Sailing League (PBSL) fleet regatta.

After three regattas hosted at Boothbay Harbor, the Apprenticeshop and MDI, the PBSL standings were tight with three teams, Camden Hills, Oceanside/Rockland Community Sailing (RCS) and MDI, all within one point of each other.

The regatta opened under sunny skies and a dying southeasterly breeze.

The wind the clocked to the southwest and built to 12-15 knots by early afternoon, giving sailors plenty of air to sail on Southwest Harbor.

By mid-day the competition was tight amongst the five teams with Oceanside holding a slim lead.

As the breeze built so did Oceanside’s lead sweeping the final five races, clearly indicating the heavier air was to their liking. At the close of the regatta, Oceanside captured the Great Harbor Cup and the Spring PBSL title.

Oceanside/ RCS’s winning team included Emmett Dorr/Sarah Vallance in A Division and Henri Weymouth/Sophia Skrivanich in B Division.

Camden Hills finished fourth overall and second overall for the PBSL Spring title.

Camden Hills sailors included Charlie Conover/Ava Tobias A Division and Elliott Condon/Teague Buchanan, Oliver Lee and Mabel Wight and Olive Conover/Violet Born.

Islesboro finished fifth in the regatta and fifth overall in PBSL with Alma Bewsher/Rosie Brimley in A Division and Eloise Mooney/Ford Glotzel, Harper Conover and Luke Neve in B Division.

Of particular note, Top Boat honors went to Oceanside/RCS’s Henri Weymouth/Sophie Skrivanich who finished over the eight-race regatta with six first place and two second place finishes, dominating the B Division.
