BELFAST — A Newcastle man has been sentenced to nine months in jail for sexual crimes he committed to an at-risk youth.

Trey Knof, 25, was arrested in January 2020, following an investigation by Maine State Police Detective Hugh Landry. Knof was charged with one court of gross sexual assault, one count of sexual abuse of a minor, and one count of unlawful sexual touching.

In Waldo County Unified Court Aug. 12, Knof received a sentence of nine months in jail for each of the three counts. Knof was also sentenced for violating his conditions of release in May 2020, by accessing the internet following his release; he received seven days in jail for violation.

According to an affidavit, Knof came into contact with the victim while working at a now-defunct residential treatment center for children and teens. The victim was a resident at the facility.

One of the incidents reportedly occurred on Christmas Day 2019, while the other was in early January 2020.
