POSTPONED: Selectman race, MSAD 53 withdrawal petition highlight Burnham municipal ballot

    UPDATE (6/4/20): The Town of Burnham announced Thursday afternoon that both the municipal election slated for June 5 and the annual town meeting scheduled for June 6 have been postponed. New dates have not been decided.


    BURNHAM — Residents in Burnham will be casting their ballots Friday, June 5 more than two months later than anticipated. 

    The Town of Burnham was slated to hold its municipal election March 20, the night before its annual town meeting, but had to postpone both events due to the initial outbreak of COVID-19. 

    Highlighting the June 5 ballot, to be voted on from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., will be the Burnham townspeople deciding between a three-way race for a position on the select board and whether the town should begin the process of withdrawing from the MSAD 53 school district that also includes the towns of Detroit and Pittsfield.

    Burnham’s annual town meeting is slated for Saturday, June 6 in Fire Station #1 on Troy Road at 1 p.m.

    Do you favor filing a petition for withdrawal with the board of directors of regional school unit MSAD #53 and with the Commissioner of Education, authorizing the withdrawal committee to expend $10,000 and authorizing the Board of Selectmen to issue notes in the name of the Town of Burnham or otherwise pledge the credit of the Town of Burnham in an amount not to exceed $0 for this purpose?
