Wed, 10/12/2022 - 10:30am
Ragnar was just found minutes ago. There was a sighting by two young sisters hiking and the dog’s owners found him.

“I just landed from California so I am over the moon,” wrote Melody Talcott, owner of Ragnar. “He was found in a place where Ragnar and I often hike in the Hope- Rockport woods near Route 17 and the Ragged Mountain Thorndike Brook.

“It feels like a miracle . “Thank you!”

Melody Talcott is searching for her family’s lost German Shepherd Ragnar, 18 months old, who ran off from their Mount Pleasant home in West Rockport.

He ran off with his standard poodle buddy around 5 p.m. on October 10.

“They went romping during a hike as they sometimes do to burn energy on our land in the coastal mountains —Mt Pleasant on the Rockport side, on our land at and above 5 Scotts Road, she said. “They normally never go far. The poodle came back after 20 minutes around 5:30 p.m. but Ragnar the Shepherd has not yet come back.”

He is 90 pounds and muzzled (he’s not dangerous but he eats everything including ropes and sometimes plays hard with his bud)! He had his prong collar on with his regular collar. Microchipped but no tags (they were switching them out.)

He does have rabies shots and is up to date on all shots.

“My husband, Michael, and my son, Alexander, have been driving the roads near routes 17 and 90 in West Rockport area after combing the forest and calling Ragnar with no response. We abut a huge amount of land in the coastal mountains and he could be hung up anywhere. He always comes home after a long romp with the other dog. He loves his home (though I am not there he is attached to me) and when alone outside he always stays right around the house to protect it and may bark at visitors once or twice from a distance. He knows his name and his commands and he also responds to a whistle.

“We’ve been running scenarios in our head: he sometimes uses a bush to obtain a dead stop…he could be tangled up…he could have been impaled while chasing a critter…he has incredible focus speed and is a tank….he had diarrhea that day apparently and my husband Michael has detected non-edible materials in his stool but not called the vet….Ragnar the Shepherd had surgery a few months ago after swallowing a large rope.

“I just need to bring him home no matter what happened to him. He may be stuck somewhere or injured or else Michael feels he would have been seen Michael and my son, Alexander, have also combed the woods and surrounding areas and roads.”
