Tilghman Moyer joins Megunticook Rowing as summer head coach

Megunticook Rowing has appointed Tilghman Moyer, Recruiting Coordinator and Men’s Assistant Coach at Colby College, as the Head Coach for Megunticook Rowing’s summer programs. 

"Megunticook Rowing is at the forefront of club rowing in Maine and I am very excited to be a part of it and lead a great cohort of athletes with diverse backgrounds, all with the common goal of perfecting their stroke,” said Moyer, in a news release.

Originally from Philadelphia, Tilghman Moyer rowed for Crescent and Vesper boat clubs on the Schuylkill River.

He rowed for a year at Temple University, finishing his rowing career with a silver medal at the Dadvail Regatta. He spent the summer of 2017 working as the Fleet Manager for the Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Vermont. Tilghman coached the u17 juniors for Crescent Boat Club in 2018 and Malvern Preparatory School in 2020. 

An avid outdoorsman, Moyer completed a through hike of the Appalachian Trail and then received his B.S. in environmental science from Temple University in 2020.

After graduating, Tilghman moved to Utah working in conservation and wildfire management. During the summer of 2023, he hiked 1500 miles of the Continental Divide Trail before being in his current role at Colby College. Tilghman will begin his MBA at Thomas College in the fall of 2024.

Returning coaches Iselin Bratz, Devin Guptil and Ryan Boutote complete the lineup of full time summer coaches. In addition, Megunticook Rowing is a magnet for coaches and participants from high powered programs such as Penn State, Cornell and Bates who will lend their expertise as schedules permit throughout the summer. 

“It has been great working with different coaches,” said Moyer. “Coaching is a collaborative effort and it has been great to work with Megunticook Rowing’s summer coaches. We all bring something different to the table all to the benefit of the participants.” 

Summer programs ranging from Learn to Row for those who have never picked up an oar before, to Competitive sessions for those gearing up for the next regatta and every level in between with Novice and Intermediate classes held on beautiful Lake Megunticook. Summer memberships for families and individuals start July 1.
