ROCKPORT — On Wednesday, June 19, at 6 p.m., the Penobscot Bay Singers will present a “Joy of Singing” concert, celebrating their 50th anniversary and raising money for Homeworthy (known formerly as the Knox County Homeless Coalition). The concert will take place at Nativity Lutheran Church, 179 Old County Rd., in Rockport.

The evening will be a celebration of anniversaries. Nativity Lutheran Church is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year; and has invited the Penobscot Bay Singers to perform as part of their anniversary celebration.  Homeworthy is celebrating 10 years and the Penobscot Bay Singers are celebrating 50 years.

“It will be a festive concert,” said a news release.

The concert will include a variety of classical selections from the Penobscot Bay Singers’ repertoire: Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus,” Durufle’s “Ubi Caritas,” and Faure’s “Cantique de Jean Racine.” Contemporary selections include: Elaine Hagenberg’s “Deep Peace,” and Kyle Pederson’s “Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?” Sea shanties and a gospel arrangement of “Amazing Grace” round out the program.

The Penobscot Bay Singers are directed by Kimberly Murphy and accompanied by joani mitchell. Violinist Carolyn Ramm will accompany the ensemble on a few selections.

Admission is a suggested donation of $20 per person. Fifty percent of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to Homeworthy. For more information, contact Penobscot Bay Singers at penbaysingers@gmail.com
