THOMASTON — The cold, soaking drizzle of the rain that filled the air and covered the field Saturday, Oct. 4 at the soccer games between the Oceanside and Camden Hills varsity girls and boys teams didn't stop either school from playing with intensity, determination, and skill.

The matches were key because of the rivalry between the two schools that comes to life in many sports.

Following are results of both matches.

Boys Soccer: Camden Hills 3, Oceanside 2

Both teams started off the game playing hard, and fervency from both sides was very apparent.

Kaleb Robinson of Oceanside was the first to score, starting them off strong. Soon, Camden Hills retaliated with Matt Crocket scoring an excellent goal.

With the game tied up, the emotion grew even more.

Oceanside came right back, with Robinson scoring a second goal to bring them into the lead.

Windjammer Josh Pitcairn was quick to tie up the score again just before halftime.

As the second half started, both teams were fully charged, and not letting the other score. Finally, Pitcairn was able to give the lead back to Camden Hills with another incredible goal.

Oceanside was unsuccessful in trying to come back after the goal, and after a lot of intense play from both sides, the Windjammers hung on for the win.

"Today was a great game and lived up to the rivalry,” said Windjammer head coach Ryan Hurley. “It was two good teams playing toe to toe.  We played our game and persevered through some early miscues, really happy to see the boys battle back and play good soccer the whole game.  We have a really challenging stretch the next two weeks where we play six games in 13 days, and they are all tough games.  We'll enjoy a couple days off and then we go to Erskine which should be a playoff atmosphere."

Girls Soccer: Camden Hills 3, Oceanside 1

The Camden Hills girls came onto the field charged up from the boys win, while the Oceanside girls entered with determination.

Both teams played powerfully from the start. First to score was Charlotte Messer, starting off Camden Hills with an exciting lead.

Windjammer Lara Cazemajou then scored to put them in the lead by two points to end the first half.

As the second half started, both teams were very aggressive, leading to a foul called on Camden Hill's Brynne Wrona. Oceanside was given a penalty kick, and scored a goal, giving hope for a possible comeback.

However, as the game waged on, Oceanside was not able to score and Emma Gutheinz scored another point for the Windjammers just before the game ended.
