Lincolnville holds events for Finding Our Voices in June, July

Wed, 06/19/2024 - 5:00pm

LINCOLNVILLE — A yard sale, Asian-fusion food truck, pizza party, and raffle for a customized Windsor chair are some of the ways that Lincolnville is breaking the silence of domestic abuse for Finding Our Voices starting the last week of June.

The events are yellow-themed reflecting the color of Finding Our Voices. All profits will help move forward the nonprofit’s programs for Maine domestic abuse survivors that include financial assistance, access to free dental care, online support groups, and a fund providing joy and comfort to children.

A multi-family yard sale and StreetFood330 Pop-Up food truck takes place Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 90 Hope Road, with music and games for the kids. Anyone wanting to donate items in good condition to the yard sale please call Christine Buckley at 207 230 4618.

Saturday, July 6, wood-fired pizzas will be available for pick up, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Dolce Vita Farm, 488 Beach Road. Orders should be called in to Rose Lowell by July 5 at 207 323 1052. Available varieties are plain, pepperoni, sausage and pepper and a special Finding Our Voices pizza with yellow ingredients.  Picnic tables will be set out, and homemade desserts will be available.

Through the month of July, a $20 raffle ticket provides a chance to win a Saddleback Windsor Armchair, custom-painted historic yellow, with a value of $1,415. Raffle tickets can be bought in the Windsor Chairmakers showroom at 2596 Atlantic Highway.

“Lincolnville is small but mighty, just like our grassroots nonprofit,” said Finding Our Voices CEO and Founder Patrisha McLean, in a news release. “Christine Buckley, Rose Lowell, Lili Clement, MaryKate Moriarty, and Mike and Jana Timchak pulled together to shine a light for domestic abuse survivors, and more and more of the town’s residents pitching in is making for quite the glorious sunburst to welcome in summer.”

Christine Buckley is one of 45 Maine survivors whose photo portraits are on the Finding Our Voices posters across Maine, and was a panelist on the group’s survivor-powered presentations in Eastport and Blue Hill this spring. She is also the owner of Christine’s Framing Gallery that just presented Finding Our Voices with a $5,200.00 check from their ongoing art sale.

"As a survivor myself,” she said, “I want to eradicate domestic abuse and I feel that Finding Our Voices is doing that as no other group has done before, by talking about domestic abuse and bringing it into the light and also supporting our sisters who are still in the dark. I encourage everyone to come out to to the Lincolnville events to get us even louder and brighter.”

Anyone who can’t attend the events but want to support Finding Our Voices is encouraged to donate through the Finding Our Voices website at https://findingourvoices.net or by mailing a check to Finding Our Voices, PO Box 943, Camden, Maine 04843.
