Letter to the Editor: In support of Ed Glaser

Tragically, I can't vote for my dad, Ed Glaser, for Rockland City Council. But I can urge you to! I can't imagine a better person to be on the council. And not just because he's my dad. He's been dedicated to the issues of Rockland for decades and since I was little has engaged me in discussions about politics: taxes, wealth inequality and all that fun stuff. Even people who know they won't agree with him on every issue were asking my dad to run. I think it's because they trust his straightforwardness, knowledge, and authenticity. They know he's not going to do the secretive behind-the-scenes stuff that has been making Rockland government pretty dysfunctional for the last few years.

My dad will work to make sure Rockland keeps its working waterfront, and doesn't turn into some entirely gentrified airbnb yuppie playground. He wants to make sure there are affordable places to live, including for people like me who grew up here but are getting priced out. He also will work toward bringing a living wage to Rockland. Among other things, my dad understands the ins and outs of city, state and federal tax systems, and will attempt to decrease Rockland taxpayers' burden without cutting necessary services and jobs. I know this can all sound like a lot of politician BS, but my dad has good ideas about how to get us there, and I trust in his wisdom and dedication.

At his retirement party he said that what he had tried to do as harbormaster was "get out of the way and let everyone do what they're best at." On the City Council, he will be part of what I hope will be a wave that makes Rockland a more balanced, vibrant, sustainable, diverse community in the coming decades.

Since the vote will be split between four candidates for two seats, if you really want to make sure Ed Glaser wins, please consider voting only for him.
