Latin dance fundraiser takes the floor in Rockland, June 29

ROCKLAND — All ages and abilities are invited to dance and enjoy a good time on Saturday, June 29, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at Midcoast Strong, 143 Maverick Street, Rockland, in a chem-free fundraiser for the Good Tern Co-op’s refrigeration expansion. Midcoast Strong will be hopping to tunes spun by local music educator and Latin dance enthusiast Dr. Heather Lynn Beers, host of 2nd Friday Salsa at Rock City Café.
Not to worry if you don’t know the difference between salsa, merengue, and cha-cha; Beers will lead a 30-minute dance lesson starting at 6 p.m.
Tickets are on a sliding scale from $15 to $25 and are available in advance at the Good Tern Co-op store at 750 Main Street, Rockland, or at the door by cash or check. Donated refreshments will be for sale.
The Good Tern is raising money to offset the recent expansion housing a new refrigeration unit. The added space allows the Co-op to support more local farms by buying and storing their produce while continuing their mission to provide the most nutritious food at the best price to Rockland and surrounding communities. There will be information available at the break for people who’d like to get involved in the “Love Your Co-op!” fundraising campaign or make a tax-deductible donation. So far $31,000 has been raised toward a goal of $165,000.
“The Good Tern would like to thank Midcoast Strong for donating use of their space and Dr. Beers for DJ-ing and teaching,” said Good Tern, in a news release.
Organizing Committee member Abi Morrison encourages all to come shake a leg regardless of their inclinations in dance.
“The music is infectious!” she said.
Good Tern Natural Foods Co-op is a member-owned food and health store, founded in 1980 to provide healthy food and wellness choices at reasonable prices for the local community. The Co-op’s Education & Community Outreach Committee is a volunteer effort to engage residents of Midcoast Maine and beyond in fun and satisfying ways to learn while improving their own mental and physical health as well as ensuring a healthy planet.
