Joan (Wookey) Peckham, obituary

UNION — Joan Evelyn (Wookey) Peckham passed away September 14, 2023 in Union, Maine surrounded by her family after a period of declining health. She was born June 24, 1946 in Hartford, Connecticut.  

She grew up in Connecticut just down the street from her future husband Donald Peckham. She gave him a chance because he looked like Elvis. They married October 21, 1967 and started their lives together. In 1972 they moved to Maine, where she was a stay at home mother to her three wonderful children until the early 1980's, when she became employed at School House Togs as the administrative assistant. She also enjoyed selling Avon, Pine Products, Tupperware,and Longaberger Baskets. In 1991 she started working for Doctor Robert Merrill for 19 years until retirement.
 
Joan really enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, as well as motorcycle riding, dancing and shopping. Everyone regularly commented on how well dressed she was. Joan had several hobbies that included shopping, toll painting and quilting. Her family and friends were recipients of her beautiful creations that will be long cherished.
 
Joan loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Even with her declining health, she was still able to make others laugh. Holidays were particularly special in her household. She was known for being generous with her gifts and always including something homemade. She loved to decorate for the seasons and each holiday.
 
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Pauline (Wilcox) Wookey. 

She was married 56 years ago and is survived by her husband, Donald Peckham, their three children and their spouses: Deborah (Seth) McDonald, Craig (Laura) Peckham, and Robin (Jeff) Irish; eight grandchildren: Courtney, Lauren, Brooke, Nathan, Alison, Hannah, Emily, and Miriam; four great grandchildren: Mikey, Landon, Brayden, and Amelia, with two more on the way.
 
Funeral arrangements made by Burpee Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home with a graveside service being held October 6, 2023, at 2 p.m., at East Union Cemetery, in Union.
