Jackson Memorial Library presents The 2024 Summer Literary Series

    ST. GEORGE — The Jackson Memorial Library, in Tenants Harbor, announces its 17th Summer Literary Series in St. George.

     

    Tuesday, July 9, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Roxana Robinson in Conversation with Lee Smith

    Roxana Robinson will return for her third appearance on Tuesday, July 9, joined by author Lee Smith. They will discuss Robinson’s new novel Leaving.

    Robinson is the author of twelve books, eight novels, three story collections, and the biography Georgia O'Keeffe: A Life. Leaving, her latest novel, is an intense and deeply moving story of old acquaintances, renewed love, the choices we make and the resulting consequences.

    This free event will be held at the Ocean View Grange at 435 Port Clyde Road in Tenants Harbor, Maine. Refreshments will be provided. Books will be available for purchase.

     

    Tuesday, July 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Hampton Sides

    On Tuesda, July 16, acclaimed narrative history author Hampton Sides will discuss his current book, The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Final Voyage of Captain James Cook. The book debuted as number three on the New York Times Book Review nonfiction list and was recently named best book of the year so far in 2024. Praise for this brilliantly written account of Captain James Cook’s last voyage is a tribute to Sides’ exceptional ability as a serious historical researcher and spellbinding storyteller.

    Saturday, August 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Monica Wood in Conversation with Lewis Robinson

    In this final Summer Literary Series event, Monica Wood will discuss her new book, How to Read a Book, in conversation with author Lewis Robinson. The book is an unsparingly honest and profoundly hopeful story about letting go of guilt, seizing second chances and the power of books to change our lives. With the heart, wit, grace and depth of understanding that has characterized her work, Monica Wood illuminates the decisions that define a life and the kindnesses that make life worth living. 

    Lewis Robinson’s new book, Islanders, is due out in September. He is the author of the novel Water Dogs, a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice, and Officer Friendly and Other Stories, winner of a Whiting Award and the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Award.
