Jan serves on the legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. She recently sponsored legislation providing a 30 minute lunch period for students (LD 1002) so that they have a clear opportunity to get nutrition as well as to reduce the amount of food waste. Jan co-sponsored a bill to increase funding for Maine’s Community College system (LD 447). She sponsored LD 1096 to help retired educators and state employees’ benefits keep pace with the cost of living.  

If you believe in addressing the effects of climate change and preserving our environment, you want Jan representing you. She was an active participant at dozens of library events in the All of Belfast Climate Dialogues (ABCD) programs on climate change. Jan sponsored a bill to protect inland water quality (LD 693) and another to expand water conservation efforts and protect wildlife habitats (LD 649).
