ROCKLAND — Triangle Gallery will be opening “Cynthia Furman Selinger: Softly Spoken” Friday, July 12, from 4 - 6 p.m.

Cynthia Furman Selinger’s paintings begin “as a chaotic mix of marks and shapes and colors, some inspired by things around the studio,” said Triangle Gallery, in a news release.

“From there a back and forth begins as I respond to what I’ve put down with new lines and shapes, and I become absorbed in the subtleties of edges and nuances of color all while searching for structure and composition,” said Selinger. “There is no plan, just trust in my intuition balanced with the hardwired foundations of art learned through my education and experience.”

Cynthia Selinger is a graduate of Smith College. She majored in studio art with a concentration in sculpture. While working in Portland after graduation, she studied metalsmithing at Portland School of Art (now MECA). She has worked in many areas of art and design including graphic design, illustration, jewelry making, interior and textile design. Her work now is primarily painting in acrylics and adding layers with collaged elements but she spent many years working in oils and gouache. Her sculptural work often combines wire and found objects.

Selinger grew up in Camden, and has lived in Freeport for most of her adult life. She enjoys being on the water, scouring a good flea market and spending time with her family.

Selinger’s work will be on view until August 11.
