Cushing Community School holds 3rd annual “Little Sprouts” plant, seedling, bake sale

Event has passed

CUSHING — The Little Sprouts of Cushing Community School 3rd annual Plant, Seedling, and Bake Sale is just around the corner on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., with drop off of donations on Friday, May 31, from 3 - 6 p.m., at the Langlais Art Preserve.

This fundraiser is a collaborative effort of the students and staff of CCS, CCS Family & Friends group, and the Georges River Land Trust, who will once again host the event in the barn at the Preserve, on 576 River Road, in Cushing, rain or shine.

Students planted the seeds in April, and have been monitoring and researching them to prepare for volunteering at the sale to help match customers with the perfect plants. Proceeds from the sale will benefit all students at CCS, and funds raised this year will be used to help provide a variety of outdoor learning spaces for them to enjoy and connect with the land and environment that surrounds them.

“Our thanks to local residents and community businesses for their donations and support this year,” said Abby Gilbert, in a news release.

Those sponsors are: Ocean Organics of Waldoboro, Tracey Bally of River Road Farm, Laurie Haynes of Haynes Farm, and E.L. Spear Lumber and Hardware in Rockland.

Beyond seedlings, there will be perennials for sale donated by gardeners from the area, and all are encouraged to bring plant and seedling donations to the Art Preserve on Friday, May 31, between the hours of 3 to 6 p.m.; no need to sign up, all are welcome on that day.

“We will also need baked goods and treats for our sale, which can be delivered during Friday drop-off or between 9 and 10 a.m. on Saturday morning,” Gilbert.
