Belfast Summer Street Party 2024 ready to rock Tuesday, Aug. 6

Sat, 08/03/2024 - 3:00pm

UPDATE: The Belfast Street Party is moving the festivities to Tuesday, Aug. 6. The forecast for rain on Monday is the reason, and as planned, if it rains, the party moves to the next sunny day – which will be Tuesday.

“The reasons we do’“next sunny day’ is,’ said Street Party organizers:

    1. that it’s very hard to get bands and climbing wall people etc. to confirm for one week later
    2. all the food people buy food for Monday and not for one week later
    3. it can rain on the next Monday, too… we once had it rain two Mondays in a row and that is where “next sunny day” came from
    4. one week later is August 12… college kids are leaving, closer to back to school etc.
    5. We’ve never gone ahead and been wiped out by the rain… we do not want to start now. 😊
    6. lastly: just to get it over with.

The party of the summer will be the 15th such annual celebration.

From 5 to 9:30 p.m., this is event that men women and children of all ages from 3 to 93 look forward to all year long and it will be here soon.

This year’s theme is “Belfast Homecoming” and it is time to say hi to all your neighbors. Everyone will be there so don’t be square and please take a chair.

Celebrating a perfect summer on the approach “back to school” there will be something for everyone with music, games, food, things to watch, and stuff to do.

Joining some of the crowd favorites, like the “bucking bronco” and the “climbing wall” are “Kidz Fun Obstacle Course”  and much more.  Children’s limbo contest.  Face painters will be decorating children. Chalk art will be produced. Waterfall Arts has plans for “be the art” and maybe an army of Super Heroes are expected to attend. Fortune tellers and jousting. And there’s more!

Best of all… live music all night with Maine’s Country Music Hall of Famer and Belfast native Don Nickerson with his band Country Mist. The inimitable, the unbelievable, the often admired but never duplicated Don Nickerson and his amazing band Country Mist will play until the wee hours.

Opening the show will be Belfast Maine Rock and Rollers “Anni and the Rainmakers” who will start the show at 5 p.m. No one likes to follow these guys but someone has to do it and Don Nickerson and his band of brothers is ready.

This year, thanks to the support of the City of Belfast and generous sponsors, the costs of rides have been cut in half. Get your bracelet and hand stamped for just $10 and you have a ticket to ride all night long. Bounce houses are free for all kids.

The street will be lined with food, snacks, ice cream and other nutrients to keep everyone happy. Organizers are looking for food trucks and other vendors. Interested? High Street closes at 3 p.m. for set up and the party starts at 5 p.m., unless it’s raining. In which case, the party is on for the next sunny day.
