ROCKPORT — The Mid-Coast Recreation Center and Learn to Skate Director McKenzie Abendroth Dec. 14 presented “Celebration on Ice” for the winter figure skating show.

The performance was a celebration of the Christmas season, filled with outstanding performances from the youngest skater all the way up to a dancing Santa Claus.

The show started with Lily McVetty and Olivia Hupper skating to Jingle Bell Rock. That was followed by the Snowplow Sam Class Group skating to Chipmunk Christmas.

Abendroth also skated, performing a beautiful, graceful routine to Where are You Christmas? That was followed by the Theater on Ice Class group skating to Polar Express.

Juliana Haynes was perfection in motion as she owned the ice and had the audience captivated for her entire performance skating to Winter Wonderland. Brynn Kooyenga was up next with a very nice performance skating to Grown Up Christmas. Janna Taylor and Lexi Tinch’s sparkling outfits caught everyone’s attention and their skating held it throughout their performance to Deck the Rooftop.

Elena Laustsen performed to Believe and everyone had to believe after the performance that was full of spotless, gracious moves that made Laustsen’s movements seem like a steady flow of grace in motion. Lily McVetty skated to A Holly Jolly Christmas, and it looked like she was having just that with the smile on her face. Beautiful jumps along with an outstanding overall performance made McVetty’s performance one of the best.

Willow Grinnell danced to Merry Christmas Darling, and I say danced because the fact she had figure skates on was not really noticed as much as the gracefulness with which she performed. This was an outstanding performance and we should all look forward to what Grinnell will do to top it in the spring show.

Brooke Hammond skated, as she most often does, almost perfectly. Always fun to watch this young veteran who has been around this rink skating for many years performed to All I Want For Christmas is You.

The final solo of the night was indeed a beautiful job done by a dedicated skater who is always fun to watch and see how she has grown in her abilities. Once again, Olivia Hupper left no one unsatisfied as she skated a wonderful performance to O Holy Night.

The show closed out with the Basic Skills Class group skating to The Nutcracker. The Basic Skills and Snow Plow Sam classes are taught at Mid-Coast Recreation Center every Saturday mornings, from 11 to 11:50 a.m.
