ROCKLAND —The tall ship Pride of Baltimore II sailed into Rockland Harbor Thursday afternoon, Sept. 19, and tied up at Windjammer Wharf.

The Pride of Baltimore II is a reproduction of an 1812-era topsail schooner privateer. The schooner is Maryland's working symbol of the great natural resources and beauty of the Chesapeake Bay region, and yet another reminder of America's rich maritime heritage. It has arrived in Rockland from the Great Lakes, Montreal and Quebec City, navigating the locks and canals with the assistance of required ship’s pilots.

Pride of Baltimore II is bound for Boston, and is due to depart Rockland Saturday. It has not been open to the public during this visit, but can be viewed from Tillson Avenue or Captain Spear Drive (Lermond Cove), if you get up with the birds tomorrow morning, or the tall ship lingers a little past sunrise and the captain’s first couple cups of coffee.
