ROCKPORT — Born July 9, 1935 on the Ward family farm in Bidwell Ohio, Carol Ina (Ward) Coiley passed away peacefully July 10, 2024, in Rockport, Maine, surrounded by family.

Carol lived a long and beautiful life, lighting up our lives with her smile; always singing, talking, giving comfort and joy, injecting a little sass and wit into her constant good humor. Her hands were always busy: making the best fish chowder and pie, making clothes and patchwork quilts, refinishing and upholstering furniture, mowing and weeding, cooking and canning, putting up drywall and painting. She loved to talk, and said her siblings used to offer her money to be quiet...but she could never collect; this chatterbox girl became a woman who could talk to anyone.

She met her husband, Bill, when he was stationed at Lockbourne Air Force base near Columbus Ohio. They married in 1955 and moved back to his family's home in Rockport, where she was embraced and loved by the whole Eaton/Coiley family. Bill and Carol built a house and raised three children in 'the most beautiful place in the world,' continuing to visit and host her Ohio family.

She adored children, and loved her many years as a teacher's aide at Camden's Elm Street School, and Rockport Elementary School, sharing her comfort and good cheer, always singing.

She leaves behind her heartbroken husband, William F. Coiley, Jr; children Laurie Coiley Massing (Greg), Scott Coiley (Lana), Mark Coiley (Masha); grandchildren Harrison Massing and Lukas Coiley.

She is survived by her sister Dale Ward (Oregon), brother Scotty Ward (Ohio).

She was pre-deceased by her sister Jean Cotterill, brothers Wendell and Mac Ward.

Memorial gathering at the Coiley home in September – with talking, singing, and fish chowder.
