THOMASTON — Nancy M. Barnard, 77, died peacefully, Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Quarry Hill Assisted Living Center in Camden. Born in Camden, February 19, 1946, she was the daughter of John and Mary LaBlanc Frontin. Educated locally, she attended Camden and Rockland Schools.

Nancy was proud to have earned her diploma in 1982 after returning to school as a mother of two children. A hard worker her entire life, Nancy has held many jobs, always helping others. She served as a nanny for many local families, and worked at the Samoset Resort in many capacities, including in the gift shop, housekeeping and childcare. Later she was employed as a clerk at First National Store in the deli and as a clerk at Mainway in Rockland.

On February 27, 1964 Nancy married the love of her life, Perry Barnard, in Rockland. Together they followed his Naval career living in Saco for three years. There she worked at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital as a housekeeper. Later when they moved to Newport, Rhode Island and Portsmouth, Rhode Island, she worked as a tour guide at the Vanderbilt Mansion. For over four years she served as a nanny for a family in Jamestown, and remembered that as one of her favorite jobs.

Following her husband’s retirement, Nancy and Perry moved to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico where they lived for five years until Perry’s illness. After his passing, Nancy returned to Maine and spent many hours volunteering her time at the Rockland Library and Rockland Co-Op. She even returned to the Samoset to work on the childcare staff and had families who returned each year and requested her specifically.

After the passing of her husband, Nancy enjoyed a close friendship with her sister-in-law Jean Benjamin who was by her side through all of the steps of grief, helping her put one foot in front of the other, even when she didn’t want to keep going. She was also grateful for her son, Perry, who visited and checked in on her everyday. To know Nancy was to love her, and she had many special friends who have all been there for her over the years. She was particularly happy to have been adopted into the Guptill Family who included her in all of their birthday and holiday celebrations. Most recently, Nancy has been very close with her niece, Tina Frontin Williams, who has been a support and help with daily tasks and companionship over the past year.

Her infectious smile and sweet loving presence will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Perry, in 2008; a grandson, Nicholas Dominic Beal in 2016; and a brother, Allan Frontin; Nancy is survived by her daughter, Catherine ‘Cathy’ Nield of Warren; her son, Perry I. Barnard and his wife Sarah of Belfast; her brother Ronald Frontin of Maine; her sisters-in-law, Jean Benjamin and her husband Paul of Rockland, Loretta Frontin of Edenton, North Carolina; her grandsons, Michael James Beal, Dale Barnard; and a great-grandson, Dominic Beal; as well as many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, November 3, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A graveside celebration of her life will be held immediately following at Seaview Cemetery, Rockland (across from the Samoset Resort).
