Rockland Savings Bank supports the Penobscot Bay YMCA summer camp program
ROCKLAND — Rockland Savings Bank has made a generous donation to the Penobscot Bay YMCA Summer Camp Scholarship Program. The summer camp offerings provide over a thousand camper weeks each summer to children living in the Midcoast area. Twenty percent of children participating in these programs do so through the YMCA’s camp scholarship program. It provides financial support and assistance to families who might not be able to afford it otherwise.
“Each year in the spring, the Penobscot Bay YMCA kicks off the camp scholarship fundraising campaign to help provide financial assistance to those in need, as we struggle to meet the overwhelming demand for help,” Troy Curtis , executive director of the Penobscot Bay YMCA, said in a press release. “The Rockland Savings Bank donation will allow us to provide the camp experience to even more kids this year. We are very grateful for this donation and happy to have a strong community partner who is willing to help us meet these needs.”
The bank also participates in the YMCA’s business supporter program and is a youth basketball sponsor. Donations like this allow us to open its doors to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. The YMCA relies on these charitable gifts to make up more than fifteen percent of its revenue each year.
The Penobscot Bay YMCA donates more than $225,000 in financial assistance to those in need. We also provide free programs such as LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, an adult cancer survivor wellness program, Healthy Kids Day, Learn to Swim, and Healthy Seniors. The financial assistance support building independent lifestyles and Teen Center membership to youth grades five through 12.
