Phyllis S. Adams, obituary

ROCKLAND — Phyllis S. Adams passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Born in Belfast, March 16, 1945, she was the daughter of George and Lizzy Page Stairs. Attending school in Waldo County Phyllis met the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Adams, while dancing at the Blue Goose in Northport. The two were married on June 5, 1965 and soon thereafter made their home on North Haven where Ted was originally from.

Together they raised their family on North Haven where she worked for many years at Waterman’s Grocery and later at the Ferry Terminal as a ticket agent before retiring.

Phyllis loved animals of all kinds, owning many over the years including ducks, chickens, dogs and cats. She raised Angora Rabbits as well, spinning their fur into yarn. She was an avid crafter and enjoyed, knitting, crocheting, weaving baskets and making beautiful braided rugs. She loved giving her crafts as gifts and outfitting her children.

After retiring Phyllis moved to the mainland, making Rockland her home. Here she enjoyed the company of her cats, with “Waffles” as her most recent constant companion.

Predeceased by her husband, Ted; her brothers, Wendell Stairs and Clayton Page; Phyllis is survived by her children, Joette Deblois and her husband David of North Haven, Carrie Adams of Rockland, Sheldon Adams and his wife Maritza of Carmel, New York; her step-daughter, Andrea Adams of North Haven; her sisters, Verna Brazier of Florida, Helen Moody of Monroe, Janie Smith of Morrill, Frances Huntley of Belfast; and five grandsons, Sean, Connor, Andrew, Anthony and Adam; as well as many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.

A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held Friday, March 25, 2022, at 3 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Phyllis will be laid to rest privately in the spring next to her beloved husband on North Haven.
