“Training a Guiding Eyes Puppy” presentation in Cushing, Aug. 18

CUSHING — Guiding Eyes for the Blind will present “Training a Guiding Eyes Puppy” in a live event Sunday, Aug. 18, at 10:30 a.m., at the Cushing Public Library. The Thomaston Public Library is co-sponsoring this collaborative event, which is free and open to the public.

The program will include three puppies that are in various stages of training to become Seeing Eye dogs.

Founded in 1954, Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which provides highly trained guide dogs to people who are blind or with vision loss. Its mission is simple but profound – to connect exceptional dogs with individuals for greater independence and fulfillment. On average, it costs up $50,000 to train and care for a guide dog during its working lifetime, but all the services provided by Guiding Eyes are completely free to the recipient. August is National Dog Month, which makes it the perfect time to celebrate these extraordinary dogs that change peoples’ lives.
