 Expect Something Wonderful.....

To Happen when you choose to vote YES on Rockport Article 4, which is to authorize a bond for a Renewed Library in Rockport!

The town and its residents are the ones who can make it happen....this time!

It will be marvelous to have many reachable shelves for the little explorers to peruse and discover the books and pictures that enchant them.  There will be enough room to house/display the book collections and room to grow for decades.  Interior design includes a great room for meetings, poetry, speakers, guests, celebrations or contemporary film, perhaps?  Even more thrilling is the inclusion and plan for more parking spaces!  Perhaps there could even be a space or two for Due Today Drop offs or Pick-ups?

A library - these days - is more than books, agreed?  We need it for internet use, coaching and learning;  we'd like a calm and quiet place to go on a day one has the need of inspiration and silent companionship; and as a gathering place for discussion, creativity and resourcefulness.  The financials seem very reasonable.  The bond will get the first $2M needed to start the building and the households will pay about $54 a year--with generous donors getting to the overall $4M needed.

The Reed & Co. architects are the most experienced library designers in Maine and they have the plan of a wonderful building of light and space ready to go.   Stop in to learn more at the temporary RPL on Rte 1 near Fresh Off The Farm or go to www.rockport.lib.me.us to read all about it.  The library will be so efficient that the present staff will be those that we know now will along with long time and new volunteers.

In the 1980s I would drive from Philadelphia to Rockport; and after the bridge and two curves my eyes rested in gladness on the library:  I'd arrived!

That lovely vision on the knoll and nearby park will again be the Connection that has vitality and brightness needed to provide lovable Rockport with a Real Center of Town and to complement all the fabulous improvements of late and great!
