Lockdown lifted at Mt. View High School
THORNDIKE — On March 1, a student at the Mt View Complex received a threat on social media threatening the safety of students at the Mt. View Complex, according to a news release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. This threat was brought to the attention of school administration and the School Resource Officer.
“In an abundance of caution, the Mt View Complex was placed on lockdown and the threats are being investigated,” the report said. “As the investigation has been progressing, the status of the school has been changed to a lockout. We are working with area law enforcement to bring a swift resolution to the source of the threats. We do not believe there is any imminent danger related to this threat at this time, however extra law enforcement officers have been stationed at the Mt. View Complex as a precautionary measure.”
After further investigation into this incident, the Sheriff’s office said it believed that the threat is related to a similar threat made against Skowhegan area schools on today’s date, as well as yesterday. A juvenile male has been taken into custody in connection with this event as the investigation continues in Skowhegan. Further information regarding specific charges will be released by Skowhegan Police.
“With this, the lockout at the Mt. View Complex has been lifted and normal school activities resumed,” the release said.
“We appreciate everyone’s concern for their children at the Mt. View Complex, please know that RSU 3 and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office are committed to your child’s safety and wellbeing,” the release said. “During these times of restricted access to RSU 3 properties, your cooperation is paramount in ensuring the highest level of safety to all children and staff. Please recognize we will continue to make every effort to resolve these matters as expeditiously as possible and limit the impact on your family.”
This threat is unrelated to the incident that occurred yesterday, Feb. 28, when a mace-like release in the school resulted the evacuation of the Mt. View Complex.
