DIS uses foul shots late to overcome Searsport
SEARSPORT – The Searsport boys played their second game in two days Wednesday when they hosted Deer Isle-Stonington.
Basketball people will always tell you that foul shouts can and do make a difference in most every game. The Mariners made 16 free throws in the fourth Quarter to pull away from the Vikings. for the 67-51 win.
Searsport took a 15-13 first quarter lead, but fell behind the Mariners 35-28 at the half. By the end of the third quarter DIS had a 45-38 lead and used their foul shooting ability in the final stanza to capture the win.
Scoring for Deer Isle-Stonington were, Sam Grindle and Hayden Ciomei with 15 points each; Tim Courier 12; Nathan Davis and Stuart Bray eight each; Connor Morey four; Lucas Oliver three; and Jared Gove two. The Mariners were 25-of-30 (83 percent) from the foul line and had two 3-pointers, both from Grindle.
For Searsport, Adrian Ellis had a game high 23 points; Austin Bean 11; Jake Keniston and Dillan Moody six each; Troy Reynolds three; and Bryce Shorey two. The Vikings were 17-of-19 (89 percent) from the foul line and had four 3-pointers, Keniston (2), Ellis and Reynolds one each.
Searsport falls to 5-7 on the season with the loss. The Vikings will travel to Lincoln Saturday to take on Mattanawcook Academy at 2:30 p.m.
