Letter to the editor: Keep a good thing going with Dave Miramant

Mon, 10/17/2016 - 3:30pm

Let me cite a few real-life examples of Dave’s effective, bipartisan work in the Maine State Senate.

As a member of the Marine Resources Committee,  Dave recently supported — and voted to over-ride the governor’s veto — a bill that requires the Maine Ferry Service to install secure lockboxes on all ferries for the transportation of medical lab samples.   A recent change in procedure by the Ferry Service was making it necessary for Maine islanders to deliver their lab samples to doctors and hospitals in person, a huge inconvenience to them.

Also Dave supported the passage of a $50 million dollar bond issue that will provide $45 million for the research, development and commercialization of targeted technologies. The other $5 million would be used to help small businesses develop their potential for growth.

And he also supported a tax package which modifies Maine’s tax code to conform to that of the federal government, providing $38 million in credits and deductions to businesses that make capital investments in our state.

We know we can count on Dave to work for a clean environment with a focus on alternative energy sources and energy efficiency and education that meets the varied needs of our children--Maine's future.

Let’s keep a good thing going.
