Art Book display at Thomaston Public Library
THOMASTON — The Thomaston Public Library will display the handmade art books of Thomaston artist Cynthia Motian McGuirl for the month of August. The exhibit can be viewed during regular library hours, Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. (open until 7 p.m. on Monday and Friday), and Saturday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
McGuirl works with her own original prints, drawings, hammered copper and marbled papers. She combines traditional methods with punching and stitching to assemble her books. McGuirl will also show books under construction to show the processes involved in building a book.
McGuirl recently exhibited at the Book Arts Bazaar at University of Southern Maine in Portland and in “Handmade Artists' Books” at Maine Fiberarts in Brunswick. She teaches at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland and at her home studio in Thomaston.
