Megan Lewis artwork on display in Washington
WASHINGTON —The Gibbs Library in Washington Village will feature the work of Megan Lewis this summer through Tuesday, Sept. 6. A Washington artist, Lewis works in graphite and charcoal and her art work focuses on raptors.
"As an artist, my focus is primarily on wildlife, using graphite and charcoal pencils as a medium of choice. I appreciate the beauty of color in nature, but I find that grey scale drawings more accurately capture the complexities behind texture and shadows. My interpretation of art is definitely more realistic as opposed to abstract; I am fascinated by intricate detail, and capturing subject matter as accurately as possible is an important goal for me,” said Lewis. “Environmental issues play a large part in why I choose to make art. I spent two years in the Wildlife Biology program at Unity College, and developed a fondness for birds of prey. I have always loved to study the animals on and around our farm, from barn swallows and foxes to domestic chickens, but I soon found that most of my interest fell on raptors. Through learning about their ecology, I felt the need to capture their intellect and beauty on paper. Art allows me to preserve what I value in nature, and persuade others to develop an appreciation for wildlife, as well as a desire to preserve those same species."
The Gibbs Library is located at 40 Old Union Road, in Washington Village and is open on Monday 4-7 Pm; Tuesday 9- Noon and 4-7 PM; Thursday 3-6 PM; Saturday 9 AM-3 PM; and Sunday 2-5 PM.
