Lura Libby students earn praise for talent, creativity at Fine Arts Night
THOMASTON — Lura Libby School held its annual Fine Arts Night on May 25th. It was packed house that evening, and the students were able to showcase both their musical abilities and their artistic talents.
“Lura Libby School students made us proud that night,” said he collective community.
The musical portion of the evening was led by music teacher Beverly Pacheco and was entitled A Spring in Your Step . . . A Song in Your Heart.
With two concerts that evening, it began with the kindergarten through second-grade concert. Songs were chosen to align with learning occurring in classrooms. The kindergartners focused on weather with songs Sing a Rainbow by Arthur Hamilton and I Love Mud by Rick Charette. The first-graders focused on organisms and going out into the garden by singing The Littlest Worm, a camp song, and I've Been Working in My Garden, a traditional tune. The second-graders focused on Maine animals with the songs Fish Fun by Cristi Miller and Owl Song by the Whizpops, which first- graders joined in on.
The second concert was for students in third- and fourth-grades. For both classes, songs focused on the school’s theme of Kindness and the school rules: Be Safe, Be Kind and Try Your Best. This concert began with third-graders showcasing what they have learned on ukeles, playing songs like Baby Bumble Bee by Mike Jackson. Then the fourth-graders showcased their recorder playing with the song Dix Ans by Paul Corbiere. Then the two classes joined together to sing Shine! by Roger Emerson and John Jacobson.
Art teacher Janelle Eddy is credited with making the art portion of the evening possible. On display was artwork from all students in kindergarten through fourth-grade, including a gallery walk down the entrance corridor, which included many magnificent student works of art that were on display.
