Rockland City Councilor William Jillson resigns
ROCKLAND – William Jillson tendered his resignation from the Rockland City Council Monday, March 7, in a letter to Rockland City Clerk Start Sylvester. Jillson unseated then Rockland Mayor Frank Isganitis to win the seat in November 2015. Isganitis was running for reelection. His resignation comes just four months into his term.
In his letter he said his resignation was effective immediately. He sighted the following reasons.
“The city of Rockland has hired a manager under false pretenses.”
“The City Manager was hired without a background check until after he was hired.”
“The City Manager has a history of wrong doing at his two former jobs as manager.”
“The City Manager couldn’t make a good decision if it was the only one in front of him.”
“I will not be part of any of the wrong doing that comes with this.”
“I will not be part of supporting actions of the City Manager simply because the majority of the council continues to.”
“My hope in running forn this seat – was to be able to make a difference for the members of the City of Rockland,. I am unable to do this in conjunction with the current council. I will not compromise my opinions or integrity to merely agree.”
Jillson was not available for comment. Rockland Mayor Louise MacLellan-Ruf said the council would not seek to fill the vacancy.
“We have an election coming up in June and we’ll schedule an election for then,” she said.
