Child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Mark Allen joins Acadia
BANGOR – Acadia Hospital announced that Dr. Mark Robert Allen has been hired as the hospital’s medical director for Pediatric Inpatient Services.
A child and adolescent psychiatrist, Allen earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Washington and Lee University, where he graduated cum laude. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center.
His post-graduate training included a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at New York Presbyterian, The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell. Allen completed his residency in adult psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
Prior to working with Acadia Hospital, he was a child and adolescent psychiatrist for the Canterbury District Health Board in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he served as a child psychiatric consultant for the Child and Family Rural Outpatient Department and the South Island Eating Disorder Service (both inpatient and outpatient). Additionally, he managed the North Sector team, comprising three separate clinic sites, where he performed full assessments and medication consults, developed a research interest in Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder and delivered regional talks on the subject around the south island.
Allen is board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is also board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
