Rockland recognizes David Larrabee and David Kalloch
ROCKLAND — David A. Larrabee has worked for the City of Rockland within the Public Works Department for 28 years now. As foreman, he has dealt with snow-removal issues that plagued the city last winter, and carried forth through the merger of transfer station and public works departments.
He has done all this while maintaining a selfless work ethic, as described by City Manager James Chaousis II during a commendation and recognition ceremony at the Oct. 14 city council meeting.
“He is the epitome of a hard-working Maine farmer,” Chaousis said.
Larrabee joined the City in 1987, and in 1993 was promoted to heavy-equipment operator. According to Chaousis, Larrabee continues to be the most experienced equipment operator in the municipality.
David Kalloch did not attend the ceremony in his honor, having already started his retirement following a 26-year career in code enforcement and the transfer station.
Councilor Louise MacLellan-Ruf described him as one of the kindest people she’s ever met. Councilor Larry Pritchett recognized Kalloch as a model of patience, detail, thoroughness, and courtesy; and Councilor Valli Geiger referred to him by saying, “A better person, I cannot imagine.”
Kalloch was recently diagnosed with ALS, prompting City employees and acquaintances to “pass the hat” to cushion Kalloch’s “much needed vacation.” When Kalloch refused the money, the “hat” continued to be passed. The $1,700 raised will be donated to the ALS Foundation instead.
