Exhibit of book sculptures at Belfast Library
BELFAST — Open Books, an exhibit of book sculptures by Victoria Su will be on display in the Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library for the month of November.
Book sculptor Victoria Su uses discarded, found, and forgotten books to create her original artworks. As lifelong lover of books, the printed page, and the written word Su finds beauty, expression, and inspiration in the de- and re-construction of abandoned books.
As new technologies change relationships with the physical book Su looks for ways to celebrate and elevate books that are no longer wanted.
Su works out of her studio in Southern New Hampshire where she "sculpts new life into discarded books. The books I use in the sculptures are in some small way damaged: ripped, bent, written in, outdated, or broken making the likelihood of them being read again slim. The resulting sculptures can take many forms: wreaths, wall sculptures, tabletop sculptures, and bookmobiles."
A sampling of all her work will be included in the exhibit.
The Kramer Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.
