Gerry R. Anderson, obituary
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Gerry Robert Anderson, 68, died unexpectedly at his home Jan. 24, 2014. Born Aug. 17, 1945, in Waterville, he was the son of Robert E. and the late Phyllis Mansfield Anderson.
He graduated from Rockland High School and received his Bachelor of Science from Penn State University in June 1967. Drafted into the United States Army in 1967, he earned his first lieutenant's commission. Leaving Fort Bragg, N.C., he was assigned as a platoon leader in Vietnam and later became a psychological officer with the U.S. Embassy Information Office for troops in Vietnam, where he earned two Bronze Stars. Returning from Vietnam, he was discharged in 1970.
Continuing his education, he received his Maser of Business Administration from Babson College with studies in accounting, finance and computer programming. He was employed by Control Data, Sprint, and Hallmark, and owned a commercial brokerage in Jacksonville, Fla., before retirement.
He is survived by his partner, Fontaine Sullivan of Jacksonville; three children, Joshua M. Anderson, Ryan F. Anderson and Miriam E. Anderson, all of Kansas; the mother of his children, Maureen F. Anderson; his father, Robert Anderson of Rockland; one brother, William and his wife, Cynthia Anderson; and his favorite aunt and uncle, Martha and Larry Noddin. He was predeceased by his mother, Phyllis, in 2011.
He will be memorialized at the family gravesite in Winslow in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Rockland Congregational Church, P.O. Box 554, Rockland, ME 04841.
