Waldo Theater's spring classes begin January 12
The Waldo Theatre successfully completed two sets of musical theater classes in 2013, which culminated in an Autumn Revue and a Holiday Revue. We at the theater are excited to be working on this new program through the spring of 2014.
The classes begin on Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. Instructors are Melissa Hearth (Volunteer Artistic Director/Board President of the Waldo) and Roger Marcotte (Musical Theatre major and award winning director from USM) with assistance by Linda Blanchard (renowned choral director in Mid-Coast Maine with extensive degrees) and Cayleigh Hearth (experienced young actress and singer). Karen Montanaro will be jumping on board in March to assist with the theme of the spring classes: Waldo Youth Against Bullying.
These classes will be covering mime, song, dance, movement, stage combat, and will incorporate these into a performance piece that will travel to local schools as well as taking the stage (in a longer format featuring solo pieces) at the Waldo. All students who wish to perform a solo will be able to do so during the revue. This class is not auditioned. Students must be 8 or older, should be able to read, and must have the maturity level to handle a group environment. Younger students are welcome, but they must meet the above criteria and be approved by teachers.
Classes will be held through mid-March at the Broad Bay Congregational Church located at 941 Main Street in Waldoboro and will be moved back into the Waldo Theater through April.
Classes will be held predominantly on Sundays at 2 p.m. Extra classes will be added (as needed) on Saturday mornings and/or Monday early evenings. The cost for the spring program will be $125 per student, $100 for siblings in the program, and $30 additional for private voice lessons with Marcotte (includes two, half hour lessons).
Classical voice lessons will be announced at a later date.
