Author Roger Allen Moody to discuss “Historic Sporting Camps of Moosehead Lake, Maine”, Oct. 17
CUSHING — Join Maine author Roger Allen Moody for an insightful look at the historic Maine sporting camps of Moosehead Lake, at a live event Thursday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cushing Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
Sporting camps are a unique and essential part of Maine’s outdoor heritage. During the mid-nineteenth century, these camps were established throughout the state by those who sought refuge from the demands of daily living in an increasingly industrialized world. The Moosehead Lake region attracted many of those who desired an authentic wilderness experience, and continues to satisfy this need today. As a long-term Moosehead Lake camp owner, Moody often wondered about the histories of the sporting camps on the lake. He will share the past, as well as the continuing present, of these camps.
Moody is a graduate of the University of Maine, where he majored in history and government. He holds a graduate degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University. During a public service career spanning 28 years in Maine, he served as municipal manager in both Ellsworth and Camden, and as the Finance and Operations Manager for the Bangor School Department. Upon retirement from his position as Camden’s Town Manager in 2002, Roger worked for several years as Vice President for Community Development and Government Banking at Camden National Bank and was then elected for two terms as a Knox County Commissioner (2008-2016).
Moody has authored five books on aspects of Maine history, and has written articles for Maine Boats, Homes, & Harbors and WoodenBoat magazines.
