Taste of the World: Sample international flavors, bid at the auction
BELFAST — The mission of Habitat for Humanity is basic, in that it seems to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Families served by Habitat are integral to the fundraising and building of their homes, which creates a vested interest for both the new homeowner and those donating time, materials and money toward the effort.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County is hosting "Taste of the World" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center on Belmont Avenue in Belfast and all proceeds from the dinner and the auction will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County. The organization has partnered with two families to build them homes with affordable mortgages, and this fall will be weatherizing six homes in the county with partner families.
The “Taste of the World” evening will feature cuisine from around the world to sample, a cash bar and an auction of unique items.
Auction items include: Four tickets to the Cross Center to see Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Celebration ($200 value); a three-month membership to the Waldo County YMCA; a baseball signed by Shane Victorino of the Boston Red Sox; an autographed photo of Chandler Jones, the up-and-coming defensive end for the New England Patriots; an autographed photo of Jason Pierre-Paul, a running back for the New York Giants; four passes to the Colonial Theatre; a spa pedicure ($40 value); a Maine Chef gift basket; and gift certificates to many local restaurants.
Tickets are $15 each, or two for $25 and are available at Mailloux and Marden Law Offices, 151 High St. in Belfast. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the dinner event. FMI: habitatofwaldocounty.org and Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County on Facebook.
