Robert Rea Rankin, obituary
WASHINGTON — Robert Rea Rankin, passed at his daughter’s home this week. Robert “Bob” Rankin enjoyed a long life of 85 years with his family and friends.
He worked at Bath Iron Works for 37 years until retiring. Bob had a love of the ocean. He took his children and grandchildren boating to the islands to hunt, fish, and go clamming. He was gifted as an artist of wildlife and sketching people. Bob did blacksmith art as a hobby and made his wife candle holders and made tables and other pieces for family. He also enjoyed going for rides, flea marketing, and lobster feeds.
He raised six children and had a deep love for dogs.
Predeceased by his wife, Margareth D. Rankin; his parents, Rea Laforest Rankin and Maxine (King) Rankin; uncle David King; cousin Christine King; son David H. Rankin; grandson Matthew D. Rankin; great-granddaughter Elise D. Dorr; Robert is survived by his children, Robert Rankin, Mark Rankin, Michael Rankin, William Rankin, Diane Carlson; grandchildren, Meahgan McKee, Virginia Dorr, Benjamin Rankin, Maxine Hynes, Robert Rankin; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Weed, Evelyn Weed, Eyvee Dorr, Michael Dorr, Kaylah Rankin, Bentley Rankin, and Brysen Rankin.
A service of remembrance will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland.
