Marlene A. (Pierce) Douglas, obituary
WALDOBORO — Marlene A. (Pierce) Douglas, age 87, died peacefully at home on June 10, 2024, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.
Marlene was born in Randolph, New York, on October 27, 1936, a daughter to Clifford L. and Edith Hyke Pierce. Marlene attended Randolph Central High School, class of 1954, and Carnegie Institute, in Cleveland Ohio.
In the late ‘50s, Marlene moved to Maine and started work as a lab technician for the Mt. Desert Island Hospital. While in Bar Harbor, she met the love of her life, Peter Douglas. They were married in Randolph on November 11, 1957. They moved to Kittery, Maine and in 1960 acquired their permanent residence in Waldoboro, Maine. She lived and raised her family with Peter for 60 years until his passing in 2017.
Marlene was an exceptional homemaker for 15 years until she was employed by Waldoboro Garage as a bookkeeper from 1975 to 1978 and then worked for Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet for 30 years, as an office manager and company controller.
Marlene was active in her community and was a member of the North Waldoboro Church of the Nazarene. She served as a kindergarten Sunday-School teacher, board member, treasurer, and choir member.
When not at work or at the church, Marlene would be found painting, sewing, decorating cakes, knitting, arranging flowers and practicing calligraphy with the members of the Maine Calligraphers. She also was a Notary Public from 1994-2008. Marlene was a recipient of a GM (General Motors) Certification Award from the Business Accounting Council for her outstanding performance.
Other than her loving husband and parents, Marlene was predeceased by her half-brother, Harold Pierce, and sister-in-law, Cecilia (CeCe) Pierce.
She is survived by her sons, Allan Douglas, and his wife Hannah, of Waldoboro, Michael Douglas, and his wife Ruth, of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Leandrea Monahan, and her husband William, of Springfield, Massachusetts; grandsons, Mark Douglas, and his wife Sue, of Melrose, Massachusetts, Andrew Douglas, and his wife Casey, of Seattle, Washington, Ben Douglas and Christopher Douglas, both of Louisville, Kentucky, and Tanner McKinney, of Methuen, Massachusetts; granddaughters, Melissa Ehle, and her husband Wes, of Friendship, Heather Longfellow, and her husband, Steve of Waldoboro, Breanna Clancey, and her husband, James, of Melrose, Massachusetts; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Dale Pierce of Folsom, California; sisters, Diane Kohlbacher, and her husband David, of Lakewood, New York, and Sherrell Thornley, and her husband, Michael, of Randolph, New York; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home of Waldoboro
The funeral will be held Monday, July 22, 2024, at 11 a.m., with a burial immediately following, at Shuman Cemetery, Waldoboro. The Reverend Mark Holden, officiating.
